The Story
A TRIBUTE TO A LONG LOST HERITAGE
In 1903 H.S. Altenroxel and C. Plange established a government experimental research station on a farm that they acquired called Krawefontein. On this farm the objective was to establish new crops to test in the sub-tropical climate of the now known Tzaneen area to determine what could be economically feasible crops for the future agricultural landscape of this region.
In 1927 Dr. AH Ernst, settled on one of the portions of the original farm now called Krabbefontein, which at that point was called Allerbeste, renamed by him to Allesbeste, during these times citrus and other products produced in this region were still sold under the Union of Krabs brand signifying the origin of the fruit sent to markets. It is here where the brand started for Allesbeste. They also named their saw mill at that point Krabbefontein which unfortunately burnt down some years later.
For many years this unique name lay dormant…
During 2016 when Allesbeste started experimenting with coffee after a rescue tree was found, it was soon realised that coffee was definitely one of the real gems that was certainly overlooked. As quality kept on improving and the readiness to go to market developed, Allesbeste decided that coffee might just be the right product to bring justice to this historical name and pay tribute to some of the long-lost heritage of the humble, yet pionering, beginnings of Tzaneen.
Krabbefontein Coffee now represents high-quality South African coffee.
